I'm sure the P90's in this guitar aren't the highest quality, but since I'm still relatively unfamiliar with the P90 sounds, I don't really know the difference-and these sound plenty good enough to me. In other words, clear and articulate with some warmth or almost a compressed sound-not necessarily a bright, biting single-coil tone. As a long-time Strat player, I'm especially fond of the sound of a Strat neck pickup, and the sounds of positions 2 and 4. I play mostly clean and tend to prefer the sound of single-coils. I'm not sure why, because I really like the tone of P90's. but this is only the second one I've ever owned with P90's. I always like to have a really good idea of what I'm getting into if it's a model I haven't owned before.Īs my history above shows, I'm a big fan of Epiphone archtops. When I had a chance to trade for this, I did my usual obsessive research-reading as much as I could about it, and watching as many YouTube videos as I could find.
